Over the past two years, my coworker, Terry Kepler, and I initiated, created, and executed a partnership program with the SMU Alumni Office to connect alumni with our undergraduate population called the SMU Connection. The program encourages alumni to host externships (one day job shadowing), serve as an online resource, and volunteer for various on-campus career center events to provide industry insights and career-related advice. The program resulted in 300 alumni participants and 35 winter break externship matches.
My individual responsibilities included:
- Managing the One Day Externship Program – developing the student one day externship handbook, matching students to their alumni hosts, creating and facilitating the student orientation process, surveying participants and assessing program strengths and weaknesses.
- Advertising the SMU Connection to student population.
